Monsoon storms march across Ariz.Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Most of Arizona is seeing a fairly active monsoon period this week, with the exception of the Valley, which continues to dry out from a weekend of drenching rains.
High pressure building over the region is pulling in a slightly drier air mass in the Valley. Without a lifting mechanism present for showers and storms to develop, the Valley is expected to see relatively quiet weather through Wednesday.
Meanwhile, it’s a different story in northern and eastern Arizona. Showers and storms produced flooding rains from Flagstaff down into Winslow Tuesday afternoon. Storms were expected to die off during the evening hours before reigniting again Wednesday afternoon. Unsettled weather is expected to return each afternoon and evening through the weekend.
An area of low pressure approaching off the coast of California will help deepen monsoon moisture in the Valley by the end of the week and into the weekend. This will bring back small chances of showers and storms.
Temperatures in the Valley are on the rise back to seasonal norms. We’re expecting Phoenix to top out around 105 for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
