Flagstaff police search for sexual assault suspect

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Flagstaff Police Department is investigating the sexual assault of a woman who was attacked while walking to her home.

On July 21 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Flagstaff Police officers responded to a call of a reported sexual assault of a female.The victim was walking home from downtown Flagstaff, when she was contacted by a Native American male in his mid- to late 20s.

According to the police report, the suspect asked the victim for directions and then engaged in a short conversation with her as they both kept walking.

After the victim gave the suspect the directions and began to walk away, the suspect reportedly asked her another question. But this time, police say he grabbed the woman from behind and began to attack her. During the attack the female victim was physically and sexually assaulted. 

The suspect is still at large. Detectives have been canvassing the surrounding area, looking for any potential witnesses in the case.
