PHOENIX -- Storm chances decrease for your Thursday afternoon. It should be hotter, drier and sunnier than it has been recently in the Valley.

We're now on the backside of an area of low pressure that has tracked from the east into our area over the past couple of days. Even though monsoon moisture continues to pump into our state from the south, we now have a drier air mass filtering in from the northwest, which should decrease our storm coverage this afternoon.

In the Valley, we're looking at mostly sunny skies Thursday. We're forecasting a high of 106 this afternoon in Phoenix. We've got a 20-percent chance of a shower or storm from 4 PM to 8 PM this evening in the Valley. We should have a  more of an active thunderstorm pattern this afternoon in Northern Arizona.

Any storms that develop have the potential of producing heavy rain, flash flooding, gusty winds, blowing dust and dangerous lightning.

Friday should be pretty comparable to Thursday. Our best chance for thunderstorms in the Valley over the next 7 days will be Saturday and Sunday. We also have the potential for severe weather in the Valley Saturday afternoon. Afternoon high temperatures will cool to the low 100s.
