Storm damage and insurancePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A series of storms packed quite a punch on Monday, damaging homes, tearing down trees and causing a stir across the East Valley. But for homeowners caught in the eye of the storm and for those who will be victims of monsoon storms to come, remember a few tips when it comes to insurance.
According to the National Storm Damage Center:
Most homeowners insurance policies cover storms that include hail and wind damage. Just remember, you'll probably have a deductible you'll have to pay first.
On the other hand, cars that are damaged on a property are not covered by a homeowner’s policy. That damage is covered by your car insurance and like your home, you'll have a deductible to pay first.
And what about all those downed trees? What do you do with them? Well, costs to remove trees are covered by most homeowners policies, but check your policy because some insurers require a separate tree removal policy.
You can find a lot more information about what covered is and what's not by going to www.stormdamagecenter.org.
