MESA, Ariz. -- Police said they have arrested the driver who crashed his truck into a Mesa home then fled the scene early Sunday morning.

Mesa police spokesman Sgt. Tony Landato said a red truck crashed into a home near Broadway Road and Stapley Drive at about 2:20 a.m. The driver left the scene before officers arrived.

The residents said they woke up to a loud noise and walked outside to discover someone had crashed into their garage.

Landato said three vehicles were damaged and there was structural damage to the home.

Police received an anonymous tip at about 5 p.m. regarding a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description parked a few blocks away from the damaged home.

Officers went to the location and identified the vehicle's owner as Omar B. Hernandez, 40. Landato said he admitted to being involved in the accident and fleeing the scene.

Hernandez was booked for criminal damage and leaving the scene of a non-injury accident.
