PHOENIX -- A Mesa man accused of fatally hitting a bicyclist last year has changed his plea in the case.

On Friday, 33-year-old Nicholas Linsk pled guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal injury accident.

Linsk is scheduled to return to court on September 6 for sentencing.

Last October, Dr. Marwan Maalouf was riding in the bike lane near Shea and Palisades boulevards when he was struck from behind by Linsk’s truck.

The impact threw Maalouf 30 to 50 yards, and ultimately claimed his life.

A few moments after the accident, a passing motorist noticed debris on the side of the road, and then saw a man inspecting damage to his pickup truck.

The motorist called 9-1-1 and provided the license plate number of the truck.

Authorities would go on to locate Linsk’s abandoned vehicle and identify him as the driver.
