PHOENIX -- As adults, we know that how you feel about yourself affects how you perform at work. And the same goes for kids in school.

That's why the Boys & Girls Club is sending hundreds of kids on a shopping spree!

Srudents from valley schools with the greatest need lined up early at the Kohls at Desert Ridge Friday morning, armed with $100 gift cards, and ready to shop.

Volunteers escort the kids through the store and help them pick out new outfits for fall.

Ellie and Michael Ziegler are sponsoring the shopping spree event. "It's really about the kids, and the inspiration that the kids have given us," Ellie Ziegler says. "Research shows that if kids go back to school without the adequate supplies and clothing needed, that they are at a disadvantage immediately with their peers."

ESPN commentator Mark May was a special guest at the event. He says he was involved in his local Boys & Girls Club as a child. "When I grew up, I didn't have a lot," he says. "For kids to be given this opportunity, it's just phenomenal."

The event is going on all summer long at stores around Arizona. More than a thousand children will benefit from the program.
