PHOENIX (AP) -- A man trying to flee authorities after a traffic stop is hospitalized after running into a Phoenix freeway and getting hit by a vehicle.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officers had pulled over a motorist on the 35th Avenue exit ramp Tuesday afternoon when the man fled on foot onto Interstate 10.

He then was struck by a car.

The name of the man wasn't immediately released but DPS officials say he's in his 30s.

He's been taken to a Phoenix hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

DPS says the incident has closed the eastbound of I-10 from 35th and 43rd avenues and there's no estimate yet when that stretch of freeway will be reopened.
