TUCSON, Ariz. -- Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized nearly 5,200 pounds of marijuana and three vehicles on Sunday.

Agents working in a remote area near Naco, Ariz., responded to detection technology and discovered three abandoned vehicles.

The agents found a combined 334 bundles of marijuana worth approximately $2.6 million inside the vehicles.

The vehicles were seized and the narcotics will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Smugglers often abandon their contraband in hopes of eluding apprehension and subsequent prosecution, according to officials.
