BENSON, Ariz. -- A woman had to be rescued after her vehicle became stuck in a Cochise County wash and began filling up with water.

The woman called 911 at about 1:30 p.m. Friday and said that she was stranded in her car on Ocotillo Road at milepost 2.

The frantic woman said the wash had water in it and as she crossed, her vehicle became stranded and water began flooding into her car, according to Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

The Benson police and fire departments along with sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and began rescue efforts.

Capas said the woman remained on the emergency line and advised that the water was up to her seat cushion.

Rescuers were able to get the woman to safety about 15 minutes later, but her vehicle remains stranded in the wash.

The woman's name was not released.
