Man accused of exposing himself to joggers in Phoenix

PHOENIX -- Phoenix police arrested a man suspected of exposing himself to female joggers along the Central Avenue Corridor bridle path.

Michael Atkins, 25, was booked on four counts of public sexual indecency, two counts of indecent exposure, assault and harassment.

Police said they received several reports of a man exposing himself along Central Avenue between Maryland and Northern avenues over the past several months. The victims were women between 25 and 50 years old.

In some cases, the man engaged in masturbatory acts, according to Sgt. Trent Crump.

Police received two reports with similar suspect descriptions in April, but no vehicle was reported being seen. Detectives then found two unreported similar incidents that occurred in November and January.

After the most recent incidents, which occurred on June 21 and 25, a vehicle description was obtained. Police quickly located the vehicle and detectives were able to link Michael Atkins, 25, to these cases.

Atkins was arrested Wednesday at his home and a search warrant was served to collect evidence. He reportedly admitted involvement in the crimes.
