San Luis CBP intercepts $641k worth of drugs

SAN LUIS, Ariz. -- Three people are in custody after separate failed attempts to smuggle a combined $641,000 in drugs into the United States over the weekend.

According to Customs and Border Protection, two incidents occurred Friday, June 28. First, a 17-year-old from San Luis was found with three pounds of heroin taped around his thighs during a routine search. The drugs were worth nearly $36,000.

Later, CBP says a 22-year-old woman from Wellton, Ariz. had 14 pounds of heroin in her Nissan's battery area, valued at over $184,000.

Finally, on Saturday, officers inspected the Oldsmobile of a Mexican woman living in Winterhaven, Calif., to find 27 pounds of meth that was worth $421,000.

CBP says the Nissan and Oldsmobile were seized, and the three subjects were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
