TUCSON, Ariz. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection says agents working in southern Arizona have stopped two human smuggling efforts since last weekend.

Last Sunday afternoon, two agents working the SR 286 checkpoint reportedly found two Mexican nationals hiding inside a GMC pickup.

One person was found lying behind the front seat, while the second individual was locked inside a toolbox mounted to the bed of the truck.

On Tuesday night, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents working on Interstate 19 arrested two U.S. citizens after reportedly finding two illegal immigrants in the trunk of a Ford Focus.

The smugglers in both cases now face federal prosecution, while those determined to be in the U.S. illegally will face removal proceedings.
