PHOENIX -- An unseasonably strong ridge of high pressure is taking shape over the Southwest.  Today, temperatures will stay a bit below average for this time of year, with a Valley forecast high of 104 this afternoon under mostly sunny skies.

Tonight, look for a low of 80 degrees.

Tomorrow, we'll climb to 108 degrees, and 112 is in the forecast for Thursday.

By Friday, we'll be under an Excessive Heat Watch and headed for one of the hottest afternoons of the year.  We're forecasting 117 degrees for Friday, 116 for Saturday and 114 for Sunday.

We could see enough monsoon moisture move into the state for some high-based thunderstorms this weekend in the high country.

We'll stay dry in the Valley, although some cloud cover is likely with partly sunny skies forecast this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for much of Arizona for Friday morning through Sunday night.

The forecast highs for Phoenix are all about a degree away from the records for Friday through Sunday, but we're likely to see some high temperature records broken in the high country.
