Sheriff's deputies find another body in desert near Gila BendPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies discovered a body in the desert southeast of Gila Bend early Sunday morning just days after four other bodies were recovered in the same area.
The body of an unidentified male was found south of Interstate 8.
A deputy on patrol saw what appeared to be two human feet inside a metal storage building near two empty water tanks, according to sheriff's officials. The deputy approached and saw the body on the floor.
No identification was found on the body and there were no signs of trauma or foul play, according to MCSO spokesman Deputy Joaquin Enriquez.
Detectives have not determined if this person was connected to the four bodies that were found on Thursday just a couple of miles east of Monday's location. No evidence of foul play was found at that scene. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.
"For quite some time now, I've been warning border crossings in this harsh desert is very dangerous," Arpaio said in a news release. "My deputies will continue to respond and assist on any calls for help in the desert, no matter what the cost."
The sheriff's office, with the assistance of the U.S. Border Patrol, has rescued 24 people lost in the desert over the past several weeks.
