TEMPE, Ariz. -- A Tempe police officer is in the hospital after being struck by a taxi cab while on his motorcycle early Sunday morning.
According to police, the officer was in the area of Rural and University when the cab made an illegal U-turn and struck the officer’s motorcycle.
The officer was thrown off his bike and into the street.
Police said the officer was a little incoherent when rescue units arrived. He was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Police said they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
The taxi driver was issued two civil traffic citations and released.
The incident remains under investigation.
