PHOENIX -- Just like moms, dads often have a hard time squeezing fitness into their busy lives.
And even though Father's Day has passed, Scott Keppel of Scott's Training Systems in Chandler wanted to offer dads some tips on staying in shape, and involving the whole family in a fitness plan.
Keppel uses everyday items in his family training to keep things manageable and affordable. Some at-home fitness tools can involve balls, jump ropes, and even playing cards. "She's just jumping, which is good for balance," Keppel points out. "And over here, they're smashing a ball. Lots of kids like to throw things. These are things that can be done anywhere so people don't have to go out and spend a lot of money."
It's important for dads and moms to model healthy lifestyles, and involve the whole family. "I want to teach my kids to be fit and live a healthy lifestyle," Keppel says. "In order to do that, I have to lead by example."
He advises prioritizing, and making time for yourself. For the kids, it can be part of playtime or swimming with friends.
Keppel's daughter says she enjoys working out with dad. "I like it because my dad teaches me," 11-year-old Alex says. "It's really fun for him to teach me and to learn new things every day."
