US 60 eastbound reopened in Mesa after fatal crash

MESA, Ariz. -- One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision on eastbound U.S. 60 in Mesa Sunday evening.

The crash occurred near Country Club Drive at about 5:10 p.m.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a 2004 Nissan four-door sedan was stopped for an unknown reason when it was rear-ended by a 2000 Ford two-door sedan driven by Courtney Elise Lind, 22, of Queen Creek.

Lind suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was killed in the collision. He has been identified as Edgar Rubidio Mendez, 53, of Mesa.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 60 were closed at State Route 87 (Country Club Drive) until 7 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The Country Club on-ramp was also closed. Traffic was detoured off the freeway at the Country Club exit.
