ANTHEM, Ariz. -- A 2-year-old girl was found wandering in an Anthem neighborhood early Tuesday morning. Deputies were able to reunite the child with her mother a few hours later.

"It's our understanding a viewer watched the report this morning and she works at a local daycare center, recognized the child and called the mother." explained Deputy Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

"The mother has been reunited with the child, however, at this point now the investigation begins as to how the child actually managed to get out of the house," said deputy Enriquez. "CPS is involved. Obviously, the Maricopa County Sheriff's office is involved and we're going to investigate"

Enriquez said officials will be looking at how this happened and how it can be prevented from happening again in the future.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at about 4:30 from someone who said the girl was in the street by herself.

"It don't upset me but it makes me feel bad. It makes me feel bad for the kid. It makes me feel bad for the parents because I know if my kids was missing like that I'd be pretty panicked myself," said Tony, the man was caring for the child.

Deputies went door to door and used reverse 911 but did not find the child's mother until 7:00 a.m.

"Sheriff's deputies responded immediately and began to canvass the area," said deputy Enriquez. "She is doing actually very good. Obviously she doesn't really know what's going on."

The girl was described as having brown eyes, wavy brown shoulder length hair with a light complexion. She was wearing a dark blue shirt and a diaper.

She was found in the area of Morse Court and National Trail in Anthem.

"All things are possible. Obviously we're not ruling anything out at this point," explained deputy Enriquez.

The child was staying with some relatives in the area where she was found wandering, according to Enriquez.
