Traffic gridlock near airport after Southwest flight diverted due to bomb threatPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Anyone driving near Sky Harbor International Airport Monday got a firsthand look at the traffic gridlock in the area.
Earlier, Southwest Airlines Flight #2675 from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, was diverted to Phoenix after a possible bomb threat was phoned in.
The plane landed safely at approximately 3:40 p.m. All 143 passengers on board safely deplaned via airstairs. Once on the ground, they boarded buses to be transported from the area.
The investigation into the bomb threat restricted roadway access on the west side of Sky Harbor. Drivers were urged to enter and exit on the east side of the airport, using loop 202 or state Route 143.
