PHOENIX -- A good way to cool off in the summer is to install some misters on your patio. As Ryan O'Donnell found out on Monday's Good Morning Arizona, it's not as hard as you think.

Debbie Hernandez from Home Depot gave us some great tips about how to put up a mister system, and how to maintain it after it's been up for awhile.

Setting up a mister can be as cheap and easy as using a special fan and a hose. "The misters are built into the fan," Debbie explains. "Just plug it in, hook it up to a hose and you're good to go."

You can also clip on portable misters in any location that you want to feel a breeze. "You can be cool anywhere in your yard," says Debbie.

Hikers or folks doing things outdoors can carry a small, portable mister. You can also buy a stand to put by your lounge chair, poolside!

If you're installing a full mister system on your patio, you have options like copper tubing, a high pressure flexible nylon, or even PVC. "To determine which one you want depends on how long you want it to last," Debbie says. "The copper is going to be there for years to come. The others won't last as long and will need more maintenance."

A copper kit includes pre-cut copper pieces and heavy-duty compression pieces, so no cutting needed. Then, you can use mounting hooks to install the system. "You want to put them about 20 inches apart," Debbie advises.

How about maintenance? Debbie had some ideas for cleaning your nozzles. "It's a nozzle cleaning solution," she says. "You just take your nozzles off, put them in some kind of glass or metal container, and pour in the solution. You can also use white vinegar. You just soak them overnight or even a few days. Then you put them up and they're clog-free."
