GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale police say they've arrested the man suspected of stabbing one man to death and beating another late Wednesday night.

Police said 23-year-old Peoria resident Andrew Patrick Aschenbrenner has been booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge.

The incident in question happened just before midnight at Sahuaro Ranch Park in the area 63rd Avenue and Mountain View Road  in Glendale.

According to Officer Tracy Breeden of the Glendale Police Department, it started with a verbal argument between two groups of people. The argument escalated to physical violence that ended with Darrick Michael Hendrix Jr., 23, dying from a stab wound.

Police say a group of four young men in their late teens or early 20s confronted two young couples who were in the park. The group left the couples only to return with two more men.

Hendrix wound up being fatally stabbed, while 23-year-old Robert Edward Newman III was badly beaten during the altercation. Newman was taken to a local hospital and eventually released. Neither one of the young women was hurt.

Police said they have questioned two juveniles and one adult about their alleged involvement in the altercation. All three individuals were released from custody and aggravated assault charges will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.

Police are still looking to speak with one juvenile about his alleged role in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
