Don't get shortchanged on baby formula

PHOENIX -- 3 On Your Side tagged along with the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures as they hit grocery stores. The goal was to take baby formula off of the shelves, put it on certified scales and make sure consumers get the full amount they are paying for.

We shot footage inside a Phoenix Bashas' supermarket. The agency says the weight must meet or exceed the stated weight listed on the product. Last month inspectors weighed more than 5,000 containers at various retail businesses but found no violations then or today. That's good news for parents and other consumers out there.

Shawn Marquez is director of compliance programs for the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures.

"In situations where we would find something wrong, it gets nasty," he said. "We take it all off sale, it's removed from the sales floor, there are civil penalties issued and that was certainly not the case this time."

If you think something isn't quite right when it comes a product's weight or size, the Department of Weights and Measures would like to hear from you. For more information, visit
