Cochise County detention officer charged in drug case
Officer Mario Serrano By Jennifer Thomas
COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. -- A detention officer with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office has been charged in a drug case.
Officer Mario Serrano was arrested Tuesday and charged with drug offenses by the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas.
Officials said Serrano's arrest is the result of a joint ongoing investigation. No further details were released.
Serrano has been with the sheriff's office since December 2001. Capas said he has resigned from his position effective immediately.
"Members of the Cochise County Sheriff's Office occupy a position of trust not only within this organization but in our community. When they fail to live up to the oath that each and every one of them has taken, they no longer deserve the privilege to work in these positions," Sheriff Mark Dannels said in an email to 3TV.
