PHOENIX -- Summertime is a great time to tackle some of those do-it-yourself home improvement projects.

On this weekend's Good Morning Arizona, Debbie Hernandez of Home Depot gave some tips to Tess Rafols about how to create a Venetian Plaster finish, with less work, and at a lower cost.

Venetian Plaster is a beautiful, elegant, upscale wall finish that looks like marble. "Typically people love to look at it, feel it, but wouldn't attempt to do it themselves, or they would hire a professional," Hernandez says.

But what used to be a very labor intensive finish is now much easier and cheaper, with the new Busy Bee Burnishing kit."It's like magic," says Hernandez.

A trowel is your main tool for this project. "It's a very thick material," she says."You just put it on your trowel. And even if you have texture, this fills it in. You're going to do two to three thin coats. You're just going to trowel it on your wall."

When it's completed and dried, the finished result is amazing. "It looks like marble. It feels like glass," says Hernandez. "It just shines like a mirror on the wall."

Here's a list of materials you'll need:
-Venetian Plaster
-Busy Bee Burnishing Kit
-Trowel
-Orbital Palm Sander

Instructions:
-Apply Venetian Plaster with the trowel in an crisscross motion, 2-3 times
-Allow proper dry time between coats.
-Place disc #1 onto the orbital sander, sand the surface, then move on to disc #2, then #3.
-Disc #3 is the finishing disc that really gives it that high gloss shine.
-The more you sand, the shinier the Venetian Plaster gets.
