Construction worker injured in 30-foot fall in Gilbert

GILBERT, Ariz. -- A man is in critical condition after falling about 30 feet while working at a Gilbert construction site Monday morning.
It happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the area of Recker and Warner roads.
"He was hanging trusses on a new charter school under construction out here," Division Chief Brian Ruffenti of the Gilbert Fire Department explained. "You get that high up in the air and you're maneuvering with the cranes and you're handling trusses, it's a very dangerous job at times."
Ruffenti said the man probably lost his footing and fell through the trusses to the concrete floor.
"He's got multi-systems trauma from a fall like that," Ruffenti continued. "Our fire crews on scene took all precautions."
Emergency crews air-lifted the man, who has not been identified, to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center. His prognosis was not immediately available.
The accident will be investigated, but aerial video from the scene showed that work on the building appeared to have resumed.
