PHOENIX -- Krystal Coker likes to get her taxes done early, so when the new year rolled around she wasted no time getting things done. Especially since she knew she'd be getting a refund.
"We were excited we had already started making plans for the money," Coker said.

They were expecting a $4,000 refund and would check their mailbox daily. Finally, they did get something, but it wasn't what they expected.

"When we got something it was Internal Revenue so we thought we got our check and it's just a letter, ugh," Coker bemoaned.

According to the letter, the IRS was informing them that the $4,000 refund was intercepted and being applied to a child support debt they had.

Coker thought it had to be a mistake because her husband never missed a payment from his first marriage. Coker says she contacted the IRS and the Department of Economic Security to straighten out the matter, but got nowhere.

"It's like a vicious circle." said Coker. "It just keeps going around and no one knows where our check is, when we're gonna get it what's going on with it."

So she contacted 3 On Your Side

"Someone needs to find our check, they need to give us our money," Coker said.

3 On Your Side contacted the IRS and DES. The two agencies looked into the matter and realized they made a mistake, that Coker and her family were not behind $4,000 in child support.

As a result, Coker was reissued another check, money that she said they couldn't have received without 3 On Your Side's help.

Thanks to the IRS and DES for looking into the matter and resolving it like they did.

The Coker family said it's money they can really use right now.
