PHOENIX -- A familiar face will be returning to the Phoenix Suns' bench this fall to serve as head coach.

On Sunday, the team reached a deal with Utah Jazz assistant Jeff Hornacek to be the next head coach.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports tweeted that the deal is for three years, with a team option for a fourth year.

Hornacek, 50, was drafted by the Suns in 1986. He played in Phoenix until 1992 when he was part of the trade with the Philadelphia 76ers that brought Charles Barkley to town.

Hornacek will take over the coaching duties from Lindsey Hunter.

Hunter served as the Suns’ interim head coach for the second half of the 2012-13 season, replacing Alvin Gentry when he was fired in January.

Hunter, who had a 12-29 record as head coach, was reportedly among the candidates the Suns were considering for the job.

Hornacek's hiring is just another chapter in what has already been a busy offseason for the Suns.

On April 22, the team fired general manager Lance Blanks after he failed to get the Suns to the playoffs during his three years in the Valley.

The Suns then filled their general manager position on May 7 when they hired Boston Celtics executive Ryan McDonough.

With Hornacek hired, McDonough can now turn his full attention to preparing for the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Suns just recently learned that they will be picking fifth during next month’s event.

The 2013 NBA Draft will air live June 27 on ESPN.
