Car wash fundraiser held for family of fallen officerPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- While the Phoenix Police Department continues to feel the loss of a fellow officer, no one hurts more than the family of Officer Daryl Raetz, who have to now live without their loved one.
Support continues to pour in from the community, and at a parking lot in Surprise it was no different.
Those closest to Raetz's widow, Stephanie, and 5-year-old little girl, Tatum, held a car wash to raise money for the mother and daughter.
At the corner of Bell Road and Grand Avenue, the officer's extended family and friends wore bright matching shirts and gave free car washes in return for any kind of donation.
A steady stream of cars came through. Some drivers didn't even want a car wash, they just dropped off money.
"It's an honor to be out here and to help Stephanie and Tatum," said relative Wayne Bristow. "I think the support in the community is awesome... It shouldn't take a tragedy like this for people to come together.
Along with his wife and daughter, Officer Raetz leaves behind his parents, siblings and a big extended family.
All the money raised will go directly to Stephanie and Tatum Raetz.
No word on how much was collected Sunday.
