PEORIA, Ariz. -- Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a death at Lake Pleasant.

Deputies told 3TV the body of 49-year-old Pedro Aguirre Castillo was found Saturday in a popular swimming cove off Scorpion Bay.  The cove was packed with swimmers when one of them saw the body floating in the water.

Deputies wouldn’t immediately call drowning the cause of death, saying there’s reason to believe a medical condition or other situation could have caused Castillo to slip under the water.

“There were a lot of people in this water. The water is only 5 feet deep and nobody seemed to see any erratic behavior or flailing and so the cause of death is still under investigation,” said Chris Hegstrom with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

While MCSO does not believe there is any foul play, deputies think alcohol was somehow involved.

With a busy Memorial Day ahead deputies remind people of the dangers alcohol and dehydration can pose on the water.
