PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Peoria Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed a grocery store last weekend.

The man walked into the store near Peoria and 67th avenues just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday. While in the store, he went to the customer service counter and placed some items on the desk.

As an employee approached him, he lifted up his shirt to show a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the register, according to police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto.

The employee complied with the demand and the suspect ran out of the store heading westbound.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 45 to 50 years old, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 150 pounds with balding gray or brown hair. He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, jeans and dark-colored casual-type shoes.

Anyone with information about the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact police at 623-773-7045 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
