Police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis says the Westar Elementary School student recanted her story to police on Tuesday. Kutis says that although the girl gave police a description of a person and a white van was seen in the area Friday, the incident never happened.
Police say many resources were mobilized to investigate the girl's claims.
Kutis says the police department takes all reports seriously and the first priority last week was to ensure the safety of the public.
Since false reporting is a serious crime, police say the case is being turned over to the Juvenile County Attorney for review.
