Former Phoenix firefighter sentenced in hit-and-run

PHOENIX -- A former Phoenix firefighter was sentenced to 45 days in jail and 3 years probation for a hit and run in 2011.

Mark Nehrenz pleaded guilty to 1 count of endangerment and 1 misdemeanor count of DUI.

He hit a teenager with his pickup truck and left the scene.

Police said the teen was hit near 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive. According to court paperwork, he was rollerblading in a crosswalk at the time.

Nehrenz left the scene but was followed by a witness. Officers found him a short time later and took him into custody.

The teen suffered a fractured hip.

Nehrenz was with the Phoenix Fire Department for nearly 34 years.
