MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. -- The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said three juveniles were among those apprehended Friday during a human smuggling investigation.
According to MCSO, an 8-year-old, an 11-year-old, and a 16-year-old were part of a group of 10 that was detained in northern Maricopa County.
MCSO said the 11-year-old was unaccompanied and not related to any of the adults in the vehicle.
All of the suspects said they were Mexican Nationals. They also revealed that they had paid as much as $4,000 to be taken to New York and Georgia.
Six of the suspects were booked into the 4th Avenue jail, while the three juveniles and another suspect were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
