CHANDLER, Ariz. -- An officer-involved shooting took place Wednesday night in Chandler near Alma School Road and Frye.
Police said just after 8 p.m. they received a call about a man with a gun near the Chandler Regional Medical Center.
An officer responding to the area saw a man matching the description of the suspect walking along Frye Road and attempted to contact him.
The man, who was later identified as 50-year-old Guadalupe resident Steven Hernandez, reportedly shot at the officer, prompting the officer to return fire.
The officer was not hit, but Hernandez was shot in the arm during the altercation. He was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Police said on Thursday that Hernandez was still in the hospital.
