BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) -- Two inmates and two corrections officers have been taken to a hospital for possible minor smoke inhalation after a fire at a state prison in Buckeye.
Arizona Department of Corrections officials say two inmates at the Lewis complex set fire to a mattress in their cell early Thursday afternoon.
DOC officials say prison staff quickly extinguished the small fire and evacuated all inmates in the surrounding cells.
They say all staff and inmates are safe and accounted for and damage from the fire is limited to the mattress and inmate property in the cell.
DOC officials say the two inmates and two corrections officers transported to a Buckeye-area hospital are being evaluated.
There's no immediate update on their conditions and DOC officials didn't release their names.
