PHOENIX -- A woman was taken to a local emergency room for treatment after she was attacked by a swarm of bees near Thomas Road and 44th Street in Phoenix Thursday morning.

Phoenix fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said the woman was in serious condition.

Julie Allen called 911 after hearing the woman yelling for help. Allen said the woman had bees in her hair and was running down the street. She said landscapers had sprayed water on the woman to try and help.

Firefighters arrived and treated the woman for multiple stings.

Jacobs said no one else was injured.
