PHOENIX -- When they were only 18, identical twin brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott bought their first home, fixed it up and sold it for a nice profit.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Now that Scott brothers have HGTV's top two-rated shows in Property Brothers and Buying and Selling.

Drew is the real estate agent; Jonathan is the contractor. Together they help buyers choose and renovate homes both here in the U.S. and Canada.

Last year, they designed and remodeled more than 50 homes with the help of local subcontractors experts. They work under strict budget and timelines, usually finishing a home within four to six weeks.

The biggest tip they had to offer -- something they learning the hard way -- is that you have to be careful not to over-renovate. When planning your renovation, keep resale value in mind.

"Some people try to renovate their place for a specific thing that they really like," Drew explained. "Keep in mind that you're eventually going to sell."

Jonathan they did over-renovate when they were first getting started.

"We put in a lot of features that looked great, but we were never going to get that money back," he said.

The brothers have spent time acting and Jonathon is an illusionist in Las Vegas, where they both live.  They're not slowing down either, their latest show, a competition-based endeavor called Brother vs. Brother, will air starting in July.
