BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- A family dog bit two children in Buckeye Wednesday afternoon, causing serious injuries to one child's arm.
Buckeye police officers responded to a residence near Miller and Maricopa roads at about 5:40 p.m.
Lt. Jared Griffith said the initial investigation revealed that the children were playing with the pit bull in the backyard when they tried to pull a chew toy from its mouth. The dog then began to bite them.
The 8-year-old sustained serious injuries to the arm area and was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. The 10-year-old child received less serious bites.
The children are expected to recover from the attack.
Maricopa County Animal Care & Control placed the dog in a temporary quarantine.
