Phoenix weather: making the run for 100

PHOENIX -- It’s not quite in the forecast, but we’re going to make a run at 100 degrees this weekend and early next week.

For sure, we’re going to see temperatures in the upper 90s from Saturday through Wednesday of next week. But right now, the forecast models do not justify randomly picking one of those days and plunking down a “100” for the forecast.

That being said, temperatures this time of year can really bolt upwards, mainly because the atmosphere is so dry. What are you trying to say, Royal? I won’t be surprised if, in the next couple of days, the forecast changes and includes 100 degrees. And I won’t be surprised if we get to 100 degrees in the next week.

And really, there is no surprise. The last 30 years we’ve gotten to 100 on average by May 2. And over the entire weather record for Phoenix, which goes back to 1896, our average 100 start date is May 13.

In the mountains, there will also be very warm weather for this time year. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s and we’re expecting dry conditions to continue.
