MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. -- An 8-year-old girl died when she was struck by a propeller after falling off a boat at Lake Havasu Monday afternoon, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

The victim has been identified as Sarah Roderick of Cottonwood, Ariz.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the fatal boat accident at approximately 3:40 p.m. They contacted the operator of the rented 24-foot 2000 Premier Pontoon, who officials said was the girl's 43-year-old father.

Deputies said the man, his wife and their four children had been in the South Basin area traveling northbound at a slow rate of speed. Sarah was sitting in the bow of the boat when she fell off and was struck by the propeller.

Sarah was transported to shore where she was pronounced dead.

Deputies said she was wearing a life vest.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and officials said the accident is still under investigation.
