Happy Earth Day! Tips to go greenPosted: Updated:
Tempe -- Every year, April 22 marks Earth Day, a day when more than a billion people in more than 192 countries do their part to save our planet.
On Monday's Good Morning Arizona, Yetta Gibson gave us some advice on ways to make your home more energy efficient.
For example, instead of investing in an expensive solar attic fan, simply make sure you have good insulation. "Make sure that your duct work is sealed up, and then there's no need for a solar attic fan," says Alex Williams, owner of Ideal Energy AZ.
It's important for consumers to do their research into products and find out what works best for them. Not only can these improvements help save energy, they can bring in some cash. "On a full retrofit, you can save up to a thousand dollars a year," says Williams. "Average would probably be more around $200 to $500."
Variable speed pool pumps can help save energy and money, as can low-flow shower heads and low flow faucets. You can also change out your light bulbs to make an immediate difference. "LED light bulbs are much more efficient than your incandescents that are out there nowadays," he says.
Ideal Energy AZ is now offering a $99 home energy audit. Visit the company's website for more information.
