Breezy winds return to the ValleyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A cold front approaching the area is giving us good kite-flying weather across Arizona. This front will likely linger across the area through Tuesday.
A dry flow of air from the northwest will keep temperatures a good five degrees warmer than normal heading into Sunday. In Phoenix, look for a low of 63 degrees under clear skies for Sunday morning, with a high of 88 during the afternoon. Winds will hit speeds of 10 to 20 miles per hour during this time frame. Low humidity, dry conditions and gusty winds will lead to an increased fire danger as well.
As this dry front becomes stationary across our area, winds will increase on Monday. We may see gusts of up to 30 miles per hour during the afternoon in the Valley, with higher gusts in our mountains. The windy conditions will continue through Tuesday.
This system will also usher in a cooler air mass. Look for a high of 85 in Phoenix on Monday, dropping to a high of 79 on Tuesday, and a high of 77 on Wednesday. An average high temperature for this time of year is 84 degrees.
There will be a marginal chance of a stray shower along the Mogollon Rim Monday and Tuesday, but most mountain locations should stay dry.
Temperatures begin to rebound back into the 80s starting Thursday.
