SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Surprise police arrested a man early Saturday morning after he allegedly shot and injured two people during a party.

Police said they responded to an apartment complex near North Reems Road and Bell Road after receiving a report of a fight.

Officers reportedly heard gunshots when they arrived on scene and discovered one man was suffering from gunshot wounds to his hand and abdomen.

The man was flown to a hospital where he is expected to recover.

A second victim, who was also suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand, was located and taken to the hospital.

After speaking with witnesses, police said they learned that the suspect, 22-year-old Rudy David Armendariz, was hiding inside the apartment that had been hosting the party.

Police took Armendariz into custody, and went on to locate the pistol used in the shooting.

According to police, Armendariz eventually admitted that he had shot both men during a fight in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Armendariz was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and four counts of misconduct involving weapons.
