SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- A pilot has escaped injury after his small plane landed with its landing gear up at the Scottsdale Airport.

Authorities say the pilot was the only person aboard the Piper PA24 when it experienced landing-gear problems Thursday afternoon.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane landed safely about 12:20 p.m. and the plane sustained minor damage.

The name of the pilot wasn't immediately released.

Authorities say the airport was closed for several hours for removal of the plane and an investigation of the incident.
