PHOENIX -- A 21-year-old Arizona State University student pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges stemming from an incident where two people were burned at an off-campus party in Tempe.

Andrew Kent is charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Police said Kent threw a bottle of liquor into a large bonfire, which exploded and burned an 18-year-old ASU student and a 17-year-old California girl visiting the university on a recruiting trip.

The victims received second- and third-degree burns.

Kent's next court date is May 29.
