SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale police arrested a man Thursday morning after he allegedly used a doggy door to break into a home near Chaparral and Pima Road.

Authorities said John Akins, 25, snuck through the home’s doggy door just after 6 a.m.

The woman who owns the home saw Akins walking through her house and texted her male roommate who was sleeping in another room.

The roommate went to confront Akins as he was leaving the house, but Akins fled the scene on foot.

Officers searched the area and were able to find Akins hiding in a bush in the front yard of a nearby home.

Akins was then taken into custody following a brief struggle with police.

He has been booked into jail on burglary and resisting arrest charges.
