COTTONWOOD, Ariz. -- Police are investigating three suspected arson fires involving Molotov cocktail devices in Cottonwood.
At about 5:21 a.m. Monday, police responded to a report of a small fire at the Spirit Gas Station, 646 N. Main St.
Officers found that about five Molotov cocktail-style devices had been left or thrown around the property, according to Cottonwood police spokesman Sgt. Cody Savage.
While emergency personnel were handling the fire, a concerned citizen notified police that there was black smoke coming from the city Human Resources building at 810 N. Main St.
At about 6:15 a.m., officers went to the HR building and found three damaged windows emitting black smoke. Savage said firefighters responded quickly and prevented the fire from spreading.
Police are also investigating what appears to be a third arson at Sun West Bank, 704 S. Main St. Savage said evidence of Molotov cocktail devices was found at that location, as well.
The damage to all three locations is still being determined.
The investigation is in its early stages and detectives are collecting physical evidence. Police and fire investigators are working together to determine investigative leads.
At this time, investigators have not determined a suspect or a motive.
Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact the Cottonwood Police Department or Yavapai Silent Witness.
The Human Resources, Finance and Purchasing departments will be temporarily moving to the Public Safety building at 199 S. Sixth St. and should be operational on Tuesday. All telephone numbers will be the same for each department.
