Young actress talks about role in 'The Host'Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Arizona author Stephanie Meyer became famous for her young adult series "Twilight".
Now, the movie version of her first adult novel, "The Host", is hitting the big screen.
The Host” takes place after an alien race, the Souls, has transformed most of the human population into smiling peaceniks, like a nation of hospitality workers. Some humans have managed to escape.
On Friday's Good Morning Arizona, young actress Saoirse Ronan, known for her roles in "Hannah" and "Lovely Bones", talked about her character in the movie.
Stella Inger asked if she was nervous about the opening of this movie, following on the heels of all the Twilight hype.
"You're always a little bit nervous before you start a film," she says. "But I think when it came to the fact that there was so much attention around Stephanie's work, it wasn't really something that came into it at the time. I became aware of it afterward. And I think it's been great for the film."
Ronan actually plays two characters in The Host. "It's a challenge," she says. "But it was great for me. It's pretty much any actor's dream to play two different characters. And to take the work that Stephanie had written and then take the characters and rebuild them from there."
Stella asked Ronan if she read the book before she took the role. "I did, yeah," she says. "It's a big book because you know there's going to be a lot of information and detail. And there was, there was a lot of detail in the backstory, which I thought would be great for me, since it's something that's really only mentioned in the film and you don't really see it as much. So I wanted to make sure I had a clear understanding of where she had been, what she had done and things like that. So it really helped."
