Woman dead, husband and son injured in plane crash near Wikieup

WIKIEUP, Ariz. -- A woman was killed and her husband and son were injured in a plane crash south of Wikieup Thursday morning.
The pilot, Vidson Yaukong Chan, 48, of Bakersfield, Calif., was traveling with his wife, Josephine Simos Chan, 49, and their 13-year-old son, Cody William Chan, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
Josephine did not survive the crash. The father and son suffered broken bones. Vidson was airlifted to a medical facility in Las Vegas and Cody was airlifted to a medical facility in Phoenix.
According to sheriff's officials, the boy reported the crash at about 11:30 a.m.
Search and Rescue Units, deputies and Department of Public Safety ground and aerial crews responded to the crash site east of Burro Creek Crossing, near milepost 32 on Highway 93 and about 11 miles east of Highway 93.
There was substantial damage to the 1960 Mooney M20A fixed-wing single-engine aircraft.
According to preliminary information, the plane experienced an engine problem.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
Authorities believe the plane was flying from Sedona, Ariz., to Minter Field in Shafter, Calif.
